ABSTRACT FERRI DWINANDA, 2009. �Description and Correlation between Emotional Intelligence and Work Performance of �XxX� Banking Company Marketing Officers in Tangerang�. The importance of emotional intelligence is because it can affect a marketing officer�s work performance. By having an adequate emotional intelligence, a marketing officer will be able to deal with daily work pressures, without affecting his/her emotional condition, which may affect his/her work performance. A marketing officer who has a high emotional intelligence, will be an optimistic employee, will be ready to motivate his/herself to learn, able to communicate and interact well with customer, skillfully managed his/her emotions and showing his/her positive emotions in order to complete hi/her job. The main issue of this research to find whether there is a correlation between emotional intelligence and work performance of �XxX� banking company marketing officers in Tangerang. The purposes of this research are to see the �big picture� of marketing officer�s emotional intelligence, its dimensions, and work performance, and also to count the correlations between emotional intelligence and its dimensions independently with work performance. This research is a quantitative non-experimental research by means of Stanine norm statistical technique, distributional frequency, and Jaspen�s (M) correlation statistical technique. The samples of this research are Tangerang branches �XxX� banking company marketing officers by mean of random sampling technique. The Data are collected by conducting a research on secondary data for work performance, and by mean of a questionnaire based on Goleman�s (2005) theory of emotional intelligence for emotional intelligence scale. Based on the collected data, there are some characteristic which consistently are the greatest in number who have an emotional intelligence and its dimensions above moderate, such as: female, age between 30 to 39 years old, have not been married, and have been working for between 2 to less than 3 years. the characteristics of samples which consistently are the greatest in number who not only have an emotional intelligence and its dimensions above moderate, but also surpass the target, are those who are female. Based on analyzed data, there are strong positive correlations between emotional intelligence and work performance except for selfawareness dimension, the correlation is moderate positive. Based on the analyzed of hypotheses, that the correlations between the variable of emotional intelligence and its dimensions with work performance resulting scores of r more than 0,4078 (sig. 0,001). Therefore, hypotheses 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are accepted.
